GYM

Because my cousin's wife works in Jinmao building, I don't need to pay for a gym membership :) I will gym at Will's Gym in both Jinmao building and the Zhongshan Park area.
I'm sitting at the Jinmao branch right now and it's niiiiiiiiiiice. How will I ever adjust to my old gym in Stockholm? The machines here are all very new and hi-tech. It's also much easier to run on those threadmills than the ones I run on in Stockholm. And they have those face machines in the changing rooms, I'm very excited about those. They have EVERYTHING here, all the machines you can think of! I love this :) after checking the free internet a bit I'm going to walk a bit (after the bacon foccacia I had at jamaicablue), and then I will go to ABT, Bodyjam and Bodycombat class. I'm very curious how they will teach it here. Earlier today I went to a woman's bodyshape class, basically it was some kind of ballet-dance, I felt like a big cow on a rope. Never going to that class anymore, haha. The trainer was sooooooooo skinny and despite her age (40?) she looked really really beautiful. Let's hope I will when I'm 40.
Later tonight I will watch when Sweden plays against Greece in big bamboo, althought it starts really late, and I dont really think my jetlag is over yet.

Please donate!

Before my spin class at the gym I just want to plead to people to donate for the eartquake in China. Also if you're in Shanghai you can donate your blood for the people who have been hurt severely. This picture taken by WoAiZhongGuo's blog really warmed my heart seeing there's a line to that bus where you can donate your blood. I am not in China so I will instead donate money to it, it doesn't matter if you donate 50kr or 1000kr, the important thing is that you're actually thinking about the victims.
I'm going to donate money on Red Cross' website, it's easy and you'll feel great afterwards. It just means a top or a pair of new jeans less for me and you know what, I don't really care.

Sino relations

I find it a bit funny that I see more Asian boys with Western girls relations than the opposite here in Sweden. And in China I don't even need to mention what's going on there. Just this last week I saw a gorgeous Swedish girl holding hands with a let's say rather unattractive Asian boy. I feel happy when I see those relationships :) I'm just glad that not every girls are so shallow.
Today waiting for the bus I saw this Swedish guy speaking Chinese with this Chinese woman, it seemed that they knew eachother pretty well, and they were only speaking Chinese, and I'm just so amazed, this young Swedish guy could speak fluent Chinese (of course with an accent), but still!!! His Chinese was sooo good. The same thing happened in the metro about two weeks ago, I heard this Swedish guy talking Chinese on his cellphone. I'm just amazed. I'm just so glad that I'm currently living in a world where everything is changing at the moment from the traditional. Today I bought two pairs of new sunglasses from H&M, that's not a change though.

The Asian Community in Sweden

A friend I met in Shanghai came and visit me this weekend, it was so much fun to see her again. On Saturday we met up with another girl we often partied together with in Shanghai, it felt like good old times in Shanghai except the fact that we had to take the public transportation here in Sweden rather than just grab a Dazhong taxi.

Anyhow, we decided to go to a Chinese New Years Party, it was organized by an organisation called Fried Rice, it's a "community" targeted for Asians in Sweden. Besides the fact that I think it is silly to organize parties just for asians (talking about just making the segregation situation even worse), the party was a big meatmarket (Almost as worse as Windows). I'm also in awe how so many asians in Stockholm are totally isolated within their group of friends, and are totally not aware of the remaining Swedish culture that exists. Even if they moved here in an early age they still speak Swedish with a strong Chinese accent and only hang out with other asians. I'm not saying it's wrong but for sure I do think it's rather surprising.

The place was FULL of tacky girls. I really couldn't see the difference between those girls compared to Tong Ren Road girls..... The music was t-a-c-k-y! Commercial hiphop on the dancefloor (Shake ya ass, come home with me tonight - this kind of shit) and the girls were so excited in their small polyester dresses to grab the older men's attention. Brrrrr, never want to see that again.
I don't think I want to go to another Fried Rice party again, not for a while. BUT, there was one positive thing about this party; for the first time I felt tall, although I was wearing high platform shoes, I did recognize that I was taller than many guys even, that was fun :)

If you're the spam commenter

I am laughing, I am laughing at those people who seriously don't have a life. Those who go to different blogs and spam their comment section. Seriously, don't you have a bit better things to do? Like maybe learn a new language, read interesting articles, go and take a walk, anything that is better than to sit in front of your computer spamming the comment section with vulgar words for 20 mintes straight. Dude, that must be so boring. Please do something with your life. In fact, I'm not laughing, I'm feeling sad. I want to help you, the world has so much to offer and you just don't care, but just choose to sit on your (fat) arse and write vulgar words with no point at all on my blog because you think you are annoying me.
GET HELP (before it's too late)
Oh, and by the way. You can keep spamming, because the more comments the better, in fact you're supporting me when you comment, my advertisers will just be proud of what an active blog this is. So thank you, but I'm just saying for your own sake, that you really should do something better with your life.
Anhow, I have changed the settings so everyone can comment, even if you're not a google member. ALL COMMENTS ARE ACCEPTABLE (except spam comments which I will delete)

I'm going to Milano in the end of January :D

What makes me keep blogging...

Despite getting over hundreds of angry commenters saying my posts are useless, it can be nice to see that there are still people out there who supports me and actually still like to read my blog.
So with this post I'm going to put a small collection of what other blogs thinks of me, of course the good ones ^_^  I can always look back to this post whenever I feel like I want to kill this blog.
I heart Shopgirl's Shanghai,  She just puts it all out there, which is exactly what should be done on blogs like that. That blog is a trove for what young, hip, educated, and Worldly (the capital W was intentional) women are doing, thinking, and, most importantly, buying.

A random Chinese girl from Sweden shows the world the lifestyle of an in-touch Shanghai’s finest. She goes to cool parties and shops for lots of shoes.

Written by a 20-year-old Swedish-Shanghainese girl who spends a good amount of time in Shanghai. It does a great job of covering the scene as well as what life is like for a 20-year-old in university.

Placed at 88th place on best blogs
There are also other nice things that has been said about this blog but that I unfortunately cannot find online, anyhow I also want to thank all you guys who have put my blogs on your blog roll! Xie xie!

My trip to Barcelona

First when I arrived I took the metro to La Rambla where my friend lives, after meeting her and her Brazilian boyfriend we walked to my friend's work, so we passed La Rambla (what a cozy street!!!) then the Chris Columbus Monument, when my friend was working I went up to that monument and took some great photos. Later on I was just walking from there back to La Rambla and went on some side street and other shopping streets until I arrived toPlaza Catalunya, the heart of Barcelona. I almost lost my cellphone in Sephora!!! Thank god the staff saved it for me! At 8pm I met my old corridorfriend Carles and we went to a coffee shop to catch up, later on we went back to my friend's house and drank Sangria and then later that evening we ended up at the absinthe bar.
On the next day I happened to wake up 2pm with a hangover, not a good start for sightseeing but I still ended up with buying a Barcelona Tourbus ticket, sitting and taking pictures is not that hard even with a hangover. I also went to the Picasso Museum, slightly disa
ppointed as the most famous paintings by him were not there and I couldn't take pics inside. The whole day I was on that bus feeling the atmosphere of Barcelona. In the evening I met up with my friend and her bf to have dinner, later on to some cozy bar.
My last day in Barcelona I didn't do much, walked aroun
d Park Güell and then to Sagrada Familia (the famous church by Gaudi), later on I partied again. I had this Brazilian boy after me (kind of annoying) so I dumped my friend who was there to go to another club with her other Swedish friends. I didn't like the music nor the venue (compared to Shanghai), but still it was ok because it was afterall in Barcelona. I love the atmosphere, in the evening when you walk on La Rambla, everywhere there are people and people handing out free tickets for shots and free entry to clubs. But also, there are lots of sleezy guys who whistle, scream and come and approach you.
I don't think I have ever been approached this much as I have been being in Barcelona, and my friend who is used to it just says "Welcome to Barcelona"

What an AMAZING city

Barcelona is one of or it actually is the best city I have EVER been to. Hands down. This city is so amazing, you cannot believe it. The weather is great, perfectly chilly and sunny, the smell from the markets (I had a pure fresh squeezed strawberry/cocnut juice for 1 euro), the food (of course), the people, the atmosphere, etc. I could just go on and on and on.

Everytime there are A LOT OF people on the street, just as much or even more people than Nanjing Waling street in Shanghai. Also everywhere I go is an enjoyment because the architecture is great and very inspiring as well. They have also all the big brands shops/coffee chains here (Starbucks, Dunkin Doughnuts, havana irish bar, KFC, everything that we don't have in Sweden). Yesterday evening me and Carlos (a Spanish guy who lived in the same student hall as me in Stockholm earlier this year, but has now moved back to Barcelona for work) went to Carrefour and bought Sangria, 63 cents for 1 litre!!!!!!!!!! Can you imagine? It's EXTREMELY cheap to get drunk here. A bottle of nice wine can cost less than 3 euros, Lindt chocolate is almost half the price compared to Sweden.
I love this place, lots of pictures will come, and also youtubes movies ^_^
I can bet that they are worth waiting for, one is 2 minutes long with me drinking absinthe.

Chinese music

men I can't say that I like Chinese music, I have always thought it's extremely cheesy and too boring. Most of the Chinese music are really slow love songs which makes me extremely bored, I seriously start to think that I'm developing some kind of ADD or whatever it's called....cool, now mum will get pissed because I said that.......whatever. You might know that I love upbeat music such as Armand Van Helden or Tiesto.
ah well....BUT there are some beeeeeaaauutiiful AND amazing Chinese music. I think Jay Chou's music is really good, he obviously has talent compared to other singers such as Jolin who just makes me want to puke.

Embarassing situation nr 1

Did you know that you have to give out your business card with both hands and also take another person's business card with two hands in China?

So a week ago, at this Chinese party, a person offered me his business card and I took it. Without thinking, I took it with one hand, read it, and was bored. So I was hoding the business card the whole time, wrinkling it, trying to make an airplane out of it and so on, anything that would make time go faster. Some girl was going to look at the business card, and she without thinking she screamed and laughed "Look how she did to the business card".

EMBARASSING, I tried to come up with an excuse that in Sweden it is polite to read the business card very carefully and do something with it, I was desperate to come up with something, not sure if they believed me or not. I told them that is why they had big articels in Swedish business magazines just about how to receive and give out businesscards in China.

Lame.

Me an Olympic Torchbearer????

WOW, I got nominated!!!!!!!!

Please VOTE FOR ME!!! I'd really appreciate it :-D

Here was my presentation
I am the perfect representation of the new Chinese generation who is adaptable everywhere in the world. I moved to Sweden when I was 4 years old, I have been back to China several times because I love the country and its culture. When I was ten years old I studied in a local Chinese school for one year, and I can say without doubts that it was the most valuable learning lesson I have ever experienced. I am right now studying business in Stockholm University because I want to be a part of contributing to the growing economy of China's. When I take my master graduation I will definitely be back in China and work there. China is the future, so it is for me.
Wouldn't it be so cool??? What an experience!!!!!!!
I'm a bit afraid though how the Olympic Games in Beijing will turn out. Right now I know that a lot of people want to boycott the Olympic Games if China don't do anything about the situation in Myanmar (Burma). I pray and hope that this will turn out well for the people in Burma. I hope I hope I hope.I think you should wear a red top to show your support! (Whether the colour red is in or out!!)

Senior Buddy Party

I think everyone ATTENDED besides the Chinese people. We were two Asians (me and a Japanese guy) at the dinner. After the dinner, we had an after-party, ONE Chinese girl came and she is not the stereotypical Chinese girl, she has worked as a model and is really goodlooking and trendy.
And I know that my two exchange students will skipthe Banquet as well.
B O R I N G
Tonight, moving in party!!!¨
<------- I managed to sell this "I'm not a plastic bag" but I kind of regret it, it was perfect to have my heavy course-literature in it.
Time for me to study Micro Economics today >_< (I hate graphs)
Tonight in Shanghai it is the Matt & flo's party AGAIN (3rd year anniversary), I sooo want to be there!!!
(Dong hu Road, next to Dragonfly spa close to Huaihai Road) Probably THE party of the year!!!

A proof of how small the world is

1. A Swedish guy I know in Shanghai, I was browsing through his friends on facebook and see that he knows a guy from my middleschool class in my tiny town in Sweden.

2. A girl in my Chinese class this semester lived for 2 years just opposite my apartment in Shanghai, both times I was in Shanghai (2006 and this summer) she lived there. We both left SH for about 2-3 weeks ago.

3. Met so many people from Stockholm in Shanghai

4. On my flight back to London from Shanghai, the French guy (works for Cafe NEO) who is really good friends with my French friends was on the same plane as me.

5. A guy in my Senior Buddy Group in Stockholm's University has partied with my Swedish friend in Shanghai. He recognized him in my facebook party albums.

I can come up with so many more other stories of these kinds. Come up with yours!

Bloggers get free stuff but...

So when I was in Shanghai I got a very nice letter from a lady working for Costco (huge supermarket chain in the United States) who wanted to send me a travel kit with different skincare products. I was soooo happy! I love skincare products and I just needed some new skincare product. The brand is Borghese (in cooperation with Costco worldwide) and they are going in to the Asian market

So when I got the DHL Express package a few days later I saw that the travel kit included lots of different moisturizers, cleansing foam, eye gel, etc. But it was all antiwrinkle products.
I heard that young people like me should not use it, then it will take affect on the skin too much and then later when I'm old, those new antiwrinkle cream that I use won't work for me (and I don't want that to happen).

So I gave the travelkit to my aunt, she liked it, it was light and refreshing she said. I just feel bad that I couldn't try it. The reason I write this is that I want free stuff that I can use, not giving to someone else, because the consequence is that I won't get as much information as I need in order to give it a full review on the products on my blog.

Review Hangzhou

Now I'm back in Shanghai, but not for long (unfortunately)...

Hangzhou was great but still it is a city that I would possibly be bored of...

People: Nicer, the people were surprised to hear that my cousin and I were from Shanghai as they thought we weren't as arrogant. There was a very nice lady who walked with us so we could find the shopping street Wushan Lu. People are less trendier in Hangzhou but the guys are still a bit "gay". I have proof with that picture of the men who use their pink and light blue umbrellas when it's not even raining, they use it so they don't get a nice tan..hmmmm

Places: Of course Hangzhou is more beautiful than Shanghai, it's a fact. The landscape is truly amazing, I have never seen anything like this and I really enjoyed it. Although I thought Hubin Road (where we lived on) was a bit pathetic although fairly charming. Hubin Road is the road just by the lake with lots of hotels, designer shops and restaurants, the equivalent to Shanghai's The Bund. I visited temples, towers, the lakeside, silk store, Liubing's house, mountains, etc.

Food: I like Beggar's Chicken and Dongpo Meat, although I never had the chance to taste Cat's ears (I got gobsmacked when I first read that they had it, but then it said what it really was, look at the picture with the text). They have plenty of tea shops specializing in green tea around town, I bought that and some typical Hangzhou cake for my relatives.

Shopping: A disappointment, boring malls and the small places selling cute and small stuff were all expensive (cost just as much as in Shanghai, I rather but it in Shanghai as we have more selection etc.). I ended up buying a hairband, a pair of earrings and a metallica bracelet.

Clubbing: Believe it or not, I can't write about it because I never experienced Hangzhou's nightlife...

What I found in a Chinese magazine

Maybe they forgot to check this lifestyle magazine before the printing...

So I heard that Robert DeNiro is really fascinated with Mao, so fascinated that he is going to make a movie about him and he is going to have a role in that movie. INTERESTING!!!

I don't only love to shop

My friend has the coolest apartment ever with his own DJ set!!!
This Friday, Mark Farina at bonbon
13th August, Deep Dish (bonbon) is coming to SH again!!!!!!!!!! That will be my last night partying.

Hope more cool DJs are coming to Shanghai.
Soon Ben Macklin is coming!

I joined the gym (MOB Fitness) and after going to Hatha Yoga for the first time in my life I can say that Yoga is nothing for me. I saw that 23 July they will have Strip Dance classes, interesting. They also offer Wushu and Hiphop classes, I will definitely go. Today I tried out the kickboxing dance, it was hilarious (I laughed so hard). MOB is an awesome gym (the one on Ladoll apartment complex)

looooooooooooooose weight

We all want to look fit for SH summer 07.
Now here are my great tips:

I've managed to lose about 4kg in one month even if I'm still eating chocolate, drinking alcohol, eating ben and jerry's icecream, bread, lots of butter, 300 g cashewnuts, whatever, you name it.

Also, I haven't been going to the gym very often, once a week or even less.
So how did I lose the weight? Eat less, put the food on a small plate!!! If you eat 300g cashewnuts on a Monday, skip dinner (you're not even hungry after having that much). On Tuesday you'll probably feel a bit bad that you had so much cashews the day before, so eat less on the whole Tuesday, drink lots of water so you'll get full easier. Also, don't go to bed when you're full (VERY IMPORTANT), if you go to bed rather hungry (not starving of course) you'll have a flat belly in the morning.

Look, I'm still chubby but I feel damn good in my new ZARA dress.
For more of Shopgirl's dieting tips, read here (written over a year ago)

I'm a cheapskate

Just got back home from the local Swedish chain grocery store ICA.
I try to stay healthy so I bought bread (healthy version of bread), a zucchini and an apple. Guess how much it cost? 40 rmb!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 40 FREAKING RMB!!!
With 40 rmb I can have 8 delicious shengjian baozi, one big watermelon, 200g of sweet potatoe chips, pearl milk tea AND enjoy a nice taxi ride home (and maybe have some left in my pocket)
I CAN'T WAIT to live cheap in Shanghai!!!!

Why do I always get sick

Whenever I go back to SH I get really sick; running nose, cough, can't taste, etc.
What is irritating is that it lasts for over a month!!!

Any tips to prevent it? I've tried eating healthy and eat lots of vitamins, but still I always manage to get sick even during the hot summers.

Some news: I got my old internship back :D, I'm very happy because the office is very close to that Starbucks on Nanjing Xi Road (my fav street in SH), so that is the place I will hang out often, hehe...

Stockholm during summer

I envy everyone who is spending their summers in Stockholm during summer. The only time when this city is not boring and grey. During summers, you see lots of people sitting outside cafes, people singing on the street, going to free concerts and enjoying the nice weather (definitely not as humid and hot as Shanghai).

What is also nice with Stockholm is that a lot of times while I have been in the city center I see people that I know. So it's a big city and small city at the same time. (Although sometimes that have happened in Shanghai as well).

There is a H&M in every corner, there are at least two coffee shops in every corner, etc. instead of having one brothel in every corner like in SH.

I would love SH to have more cozy coffee shops on those main streets, although I love Starbucks. I would love to implicate the Swedish fika-culture in big international cities such as Shanghai. Fika basically means that taking a break sitting down and have coffee and cake. Fika is both an art form and a social event for Swedes and something taken very seriously!

One year has passed...

It was about one year ago my granddad Wang Yaotian passed away. I was in the US so I couldn’t possibly do anything but to sit on my bed and cry cry cry.
I always knew that my granddad was a great person, everyone in the family spoke so highly about him, sometimes I would even see him on some magazine cover. Although I don’t know him that well as I spent all my life in Sweden while he spent his life in Shanghai, he has always been a big part of my life. I have always looked up to him. He always told me to read many books and always aim higher.

I remember those days when we would walk on Anfu Road and go to Xinhua bookstore because he wanted me to read some new books. Or those days we would grab a taxi and drive around The Bund, because he loved to see how Shanghai developed into a big international city.
Whenever I saw him in the house, he was either reading, writing, eating, playing solitaire (patience) or talking about some meeting. I also remember that he particularly liked poems so he tried to teach me how to memorize poems from his favorite poet Li Bai. He always told me I was very intelligent because I could memorize them so fast and that made me feel special.

It wasn’t before after my grandfather passed away that I really became curious to find out who he really was. As he’s quite famous within the economic field I would do some research on him and get lots of hits on google (even in English).

Here are some things I would find from the internet in English.

"Professor Wang Yaotian, director of the Shanghai Research Center of the World Trade Organization, said he is sure private firms will be attractive to overseas investors because "they are good at adapting to market demand, flexible in their operations and demonstrate initiative."

"WTO entry is also a great opportunity for the banking sector, powerful economic growth that will likely be generated from WTO entry will demand more support from financial sectors," said Wang Yaotian, a renowned expert in WTO research, in a recent interview with Shanghai Star."

"Wang Ming (my aunt), a researcher with the Shanghai International Trade Institute and daughter of a prestigious Chinese scholar. Her late father, Wang Yaotian, ended his enforced labor transformation in the countryside and returned to Shanghai in the same year of Nixon's visit. The farther used to serve as an interpreter of U.S. military in China during World War II and later studied and obtained doctor's degree in the United States.
On the eve of Nixon's visit, her father compiled a book for students about the United States based on his earlier experience in the country. Wang Ming later became a legal expert on the World Trade Organization. And her son and nephews spent years in the U.S. to study law on international economics.
"The fate of my family is closed connected with China's reform and opening to the outside world," Wang Ming said."

Here are also some books he wrote,
Wang Yaotian, "The Formulation of the Framework and Principles of International Service Trade,"
WangYaotian, International Business ,
WangYaotian, International Trade Principles
Wang Yaotian, International Trade
Wang Yaotian, "On the Use of Generalized System of Preferences to Expand the Exports of Chinese Finished Products,
Wang Yaotian, "The Theoretical Base of China's Reform in Foreign Trade System

How I would just like to turn back time and sit with him once again and question him about China’s bright future or which place has the best dumplings.
I believe it's on the 24th, WTO will arrange a ceremony. I just wish I could have been there.

The Movie: Shanghai Baby

I thought the book Shanghai Baby was excellent! The language she used and the way she used metaphors, etc. I just loved the whole book and I have read it about 3, 4 times. She also gives the reader a view into the city Shanghai, how international and trendy it really is.

Of course I will have to see the movie version when it comes out. I'm a bit disappointed with the casting though. The leading role Coco will be played by Bai Ling [you know the (ugly) Chinese girl (slut) who ALWAYS wear really tacky clothes] and Mark (Coco's German lover) is played by Luke Goss.
I just saw the trailor and it looks quite good, although there are a lot of naked scenes with Bai Ling in it (very disappointed with her portraiting Coco, she's waaaaay too skinny). Her boyfriend is played by Gregory Wong, he looks much hotter than Bai Ling.

If I was the director I would have chosen Shu Qi or Zhou Xun to play Coco. Aaron Eckhart (blonde enough) from Thank you for smoking or Ben Affleck in blonde hair would play Mark.

My cousin is getting married

My dear cousin is finally getting married, at the age of 27. Congratulations!!! I think that my cousin and his fiancee really represents "the China dream". They are both well-educated lawyers, work for big American lawfirms, have one apartment that they own, will buy a car soon(probably Audi), will probably also get two babies (This new China rule says that if both of you were an only child you are aloud to have 2 babies).

I asked my mum how he proposed and she looked at me saying What? Their parents agreed to it.

Maybe I don't want them to represent the New China dream after all...
[I took the picture in Häagen Dazs café in Jingan City Plaza]
