Cognitive therapy

"I'm a kind and sweet person"
"I'm a fun person"
"I'm intelligent and very ambitious"
"I'm going to have a successful future"
"I'm a lucky girl and I appreciate it"

We had an interesting discussion today in our corridor, we came to the conclusion that Cognitive Therapy is the way to deal with depression, whenever I feel things are not going my way, I will look in the mirror and say those things, it sounds silly but it does work. Cognitive therapy makes a change in your life compared to Freud's theory which is about analyzing why you are feeling the way you do. I think it's better to work with cognitive therapy and do something about it! Those sentences above is actually sentences I would say and mean it. Those are the things I'm proud of.

cognitive therapy just sounds like denial to me. your not actually doing anything.

i think that if you are down then you should work out why and do something about it.

if you are fat and angry about it... telling yourself your thin in the mirror everyday doesnt make you thin. it might make you feel better in the short term if you lie to your brain enough but at the end of the day you are going to realise you are fat again.
