When a door close, a window opens

There have been so many articles out there talking about Chinas rapid economic boom, but focusing on the negative sides of this economic boom, on how China's cheap labour is affecting unemployment in Europe, USA and even Mexico.
But I would rather turn that around, when cheap labour is competing out the labour in the west, the west should be focusing on business related to service. China's strong point is their labour resources, and not their service skill.
Anyhow, what I wanted to mention is that. China is basically saving the global world because of it's rapid economic growth (yes I might be a bit provocative now, but still, read on...)
I just found out China bought 10% of Morgan Stanley!!!! It has been known that MS have had a tough time these last 5 years. Besides this China is helping the US from diving down another step in their financial crisis by buying LOTS of their treasuries and parts of some big financial organisations, etc.
And China is investing billions into some countries in Africa (please stay focused on the business and not the political sides). Also thanks to China the raw material in Latin America has risen a lot which helps its economy to rise. In Australia there have been more work opportunities within the coal mine industry as China starves after coal from OZ.
I'm just so impressed with this nation, in just so short time this nation has transformed from a country with no significance to the key country that is affecting the whole world in so many ways. It's absolutely amazing!
China has the biggest currency reserve in the whole world at the moment. Also, China has now overpassed Germany's economy!!!
So the point with this thread is that I understand some people have been mad of this economic boom leading to prices on oil and maybe some raw materials rising quite a lot, but imagine all the good things that has comed with China's economy.
We are still looking at this in a short perspective, it's natural that there are unbalanced things in Chinas economy like this inflation problem, but imagine in 15 years when everything has adapted with eachother.........
oh god, I can't even imagine what a "dream" place this place can become to?? (NOT considerate the environment issue, hehe)

You do realize most of the things you mentioned about China "helping" other countries are contributing to environmental degradation, right?

Yet as it grows, China bullies other countries around more and more. I think as with individual Chinese, China as a whole is still far too concerned about looking after it's own than to give a **** about anyone else. Which to a point is good though, other countries don't do it enough. But as it is now it's only business and no real humanity.

China is the potential economic superpower of the next 50 years - but moreover, a country with a great heritage of history and culture.

I strongly believe that the Beijing Olympics will reach - and even pass - our biggest expectations. ;)

Some say the 19th century was Britain's, the 20th America's and the 21st will be China's

Did you ever think about what if PRC did what they did in 1979 in 1949 instead ?

anonymous1: of course, but I'm not taking the environmental issue in consideration here. We can not stop doing business just because it damages the environment.

mick: Of course, but that's how the world is, I'm a realist, everyone does the thing that will benefit themselves, then it it also benefit others, it's a plus. which is in Chinas case.

Bill: could you please elaborate, I don't know that much about Chinese history

China owns the United States, literally. It's a bit scary how China is buying up United States debt and government bonds. United States is a) on the brink of recession or b) in some serious shit right now, as I type this. The sad thing is that the Fed has pulled out ALL the stops, giving large financial institutions essentially "free money," giving Americans dollars to spend (a check in the mail), and giving businesses tax cuts; all to get America spending again.

I'm not sure how much you know about the economic situation in America but dumb spendthrifts who can't pay back their credit cards and mortgages, banks investing in risky things, and the government's mismanagement has essentially screwed us over. Our debt is in the trillions...

Perhaps I am not knowledgeable enough to speak about it, but I feel that the outsourcing (to China, India, Thailand, etc.) that corporations are doing is perhaps a positive thing for the United States. It forces us to raise the education level and the standards of the work force.

My economics teacher consoled me the other day telling me to stay in college because in four years it will all be over and the United States would be a nice and happy place again. I really hope he is right, otherwise the 20th century world supahpower is doomed (think Rome).

I like how you always make me write a fucking novel. Once in a while you have some really stimulating material and it gets me worked up.

well, China's booming is a double edge sword, depending where you want to stand. News love negative reports and not totally unbiased.

What do you think about the political situation? The exploitation of workers? The human rights abuses? The threats against Taiwan and Tibet? The corruption? The lack of democracy? The religious persecution? The rampant prostitution? These issues undermine any economic progress that China has achieved, in my opinion. Aftr all, money isn't everything, you know...

To the above commentator:

The greatest achievement of China in the last three decades is to lift 500 million people out of poverty. When you are in an absolute poverty, money is something very important. This is the beauty of free market economy.

As the sins you listed above, they are there. But if you only look at the negative side of Chinese economic development, then you definitely do not see the big picture. Any objective observers will tell you that in terms of social development, China has progressed as well, not as fast as those in the west who wish to see.

But you really don't need me to tell you the sins committed by the western countries.

Indeed money is not everything, but try telling that to someone from Shanghai. How about this outrageous comment : "We can not stop doing business just because it damages the environment." - of course you bloody well can otherwise the world will become a hot desert covered in industrial effluent and bleached bones.

Perhaps with maturity 'shopgirl' will become more responsible in her thinking rather than just lusting after the next handbag all of the time with bugger all concern for anyone else.

Prostitution is indeed a problem in China - everytime I visit Beijing I hear "massageee zexxx zir, massagee zex" as the poor country girl in a hand me down coat skips up and down in naive enthusiasm. Perhaps you are planning to try that profession?

I think China will dominate the proceedings for the next decades. I wish they become more active in world politics so that we have a multi polar world instead of the current situation where the US talks of strikes on countries which it feels threatened by.
