One in a million

WOW, I'm really surprised. I'm this month's second best seller. As you know I work for a financial consultancy firm in downtown Stockholm, so my duty is to book wealthy private persons to our meetings in our head office. Besides a regular salary we also get commission, and let's just say that I'm really looking for my paycheck! The guy who sold the most has lots of experience so I do consider myself best at my level as a newbie in the company.
I read an interesting article in Metro some months ago about an immigrant boy in Sweden doing telemarketing and he said, when he changed his foreign name to a typical Swedish name in the phone he started to sell much more products. I actually use my real name in the phone (and it's a Chinese name) and sell more than Swedes so I'm very proud. Imagine if I suddenly started to call myself Sophia, I wonder how many I would be able to book?
I read in a survey that three to four out of ten immigrants feel they are being discriminated at work here in Sweden because of their race and that is something I feel really strong about. What about you, what is your opinion on this? Would love to hear some comments about this.

I'm not exactly clear what it is you do at the financial consultancy firm in Sweden, but congrats on being a top seller. I assume by seller you mean booking client meetings for actual broker/dealers? If Sweden is anything like the US, you need several different types of licenses (for which you need to pass several exams and have some experience requirements) in order to actually market securities to clients. As you mentioned you're still in school I would imagine you are ineligible for those licenses but once again, I'm just thinking back to my time at UBS in the States.

At any rate, I'll weigh in with my opinion on women and sales. I'm not going to lie but a pretty face helps move the product. Its why every cosmetics company or clothing brand uses good-looking models or famous actors and actresses. Of course this goes beyond those two items, pretty people are used to market everything from acne medication to (duh) financial products. When I interned for UBS, the interns who booked the most client meetings were consistently the younger, better looking women (perhaps you fall into this category Siyan?). At any rate I'm not trying to be sexist, but just stating my observation of how the world works. Take the same concept and apply it to immigrants for example and you're going to find people are going to be more comfortable, at least mentally, dealing with someone they are familiar with. Even if the familiarity stems from someone's name being Sam instead of Samhamesh.

hehe now I'm blushing, but seriously. There's a superhot Swedish guy in our group and he also has a very professional voice. But he didn't sell as much as me, far from that :D

Maybe I'm just lucky this month :)

Dont fall for that story (the immigrant who changes his name then suddently get job interview, success at telemarketing etc...). Its a bit like the story that China is making lampshades with the skins of falungong practicioners. Its part of the zionist compaign to stir trouble among communities all over the world - note that the very same people who favored mass immigration as a mean to keep workers' salaries low and the one promoting this feeling of shame and responsibility among the dominant group (white christians in this case) and creating the "war of civilizations". Dont fall for that. You are a good telesales, a Christian name would not help.

i really doubt it was siyans looks that made her the top seller... its telesales, as in over the phone! lol

so i think her charisma would have played a role in it.

Møtebooker/selger er en tøff stilling og derfor har jeg styrt unna med en eneste mulighet.

Men men, lykke til med uansett hva du holder på med. Forresten, hvor langt har du kommet på skolen? Ferdig med BSc eller MSc?
