Inspiration: China
I remember this summer in Shanghai I had this conversation with a Swedish guy about the styles of Chinese girls. When he told me that he thought the styles of Chinese girls on the street of Shanghai would be an inspiration source to the West I didn't take him seriously. I was thinking God, you have to be kidding me? 90% of the street fashion here in Shanghai is actually horrible.
But I was so wrong! I realize now just after a half year how wrong I was. I have never seen so many things here in Sweden that resembles of what I have seen in the small shops for girls in Shanghai.
Flounces are appearing everywhere here, so are the other small girly details on clothes. Before us Swedes only wore colours like dark blue, grey, black, even if those colours still dominate we are starting to wear more eye-popping clothes. Neon colours has never been more trendy, neither has those cute accessories that really appears everywhere.
I would like to think that this is a result from China's influence. :-)

Hello,
I´m going to Shanghai for the first time in my life..it is goingt to be so much fun. I´m looking forward to shop till I drop =, I from Sweden. Do you know any places in Shanghai that I have to visit? Also, I would like to have a nice dress made only for my self (I have a drawing) do you know any nice tailor? Thanks for a inspiring blogg /Marie (plomsan@hotmail.com)
hey marie
you have to visit changle road, shaanxi road, xinle road and taikang road.
those small streets are filled with small shops with really unique clothes. Some shops are opened up by local designers in shanghai. Some o its style reminds me of Monki and Weekday here in Sweden. Those clothes on those streets are more fashionable and unique and shouldnt be represented of what the majority of people wear in shanghai. If you want to dress like a real local, visit department stores along nanjing walking street (the equivalent of Drottningsgatan in Stockholm but 100 times bigger haha) and also Huaihai road where you can find H&M, MANGO and zara etc.
You should definitely get a dress made at the fabric market, go to Lujia Bang Road the taxidriver will know you want to go to the fabric market.
another place to visit is qipu road, they have EVERYTHING, but be patient, you will find some goldklimps there.
Lycka till!!!
What do you think about the Edison/Gillian etc photo scandal? Have you seen the photos? I'm curious what your thoughts are as a young chinese woman.
yes, i have seen the pictures. of course this is an embarassment for these actors but I really don't think it's a big deal. I think it's easier for western people to just forget about it whilst the Chinese people will make this bigger than it actually desrves to be.
I agree about the fashion, I used to think it was really tacky, but it has its own charm and it is totally growing on me. I love Shanghai's shopping, but every city in China has its own kind of fashion which I love. Not a big or fashion conscious city but I have found some great stuff in Guilin while I lived there. Heading to Shanghai this Sunday and will Definatly be checking out the shops!
Hey, I read your blog every now and then. You seem to be really involved about Shanghai, that seems really cool. I went there last summer and when I went back to USA I felt "homesick", even though I'm from USA. Your blog gives me a little taste of what its like to be back in China again.
Check out my blog if you have time :)
Best
what you're talking about isn't inspired by China, big slogan tshirts, neons, etc were very "in" last season, its only that China copied it before H&M and the other western brands went with the look.
