The Movie: Shanghai Baby
I thought the book Shanghai Baby was excellent! The language she used and the way she used metaphors, etc. I just loved the whole book and I have read it about 3, 4 times. She also gives the reader a view into the city Shanghai, how international and trendy it really is.Of course I will have to see the movie version when it comes out. I'm a bit disappointed with the casting though. The leading role Coco will be played by Bai Ling [you know the (ugly) Chinese girl (slut) who ALWAYS wear really tacky clothes] and Mark (Coco's German lover) is played by Luke Goss.
I just saw the trailor and it looks quite good, although there are a lot of naked scenes with Bai Ling in it (very disappointed with her portraiting Coco, she's waaaaay too skinny). Her boyfriend is played by Gregory Wong, he looks much hotter than Bai Ling.
If I was the director I would have chosen Shu Qi or Zhou Xun to play Coco. Aaron Eckhart (blonde enough) from Thank you for smoking or Ben Affleck in blonde hair would play Mark.

Did anyone else notice that Siyan somehow looks like Paris Hilton? Don't misunderstanding me, she is not ugly like the Hilton daughter (now in jail I believe), I think Siyan looks rather pretty, but she somehow looks like her. Nose or eyes perhaps? Slutty smile?

what's funny is that I have heard people tell me that before. because we both have long noses and square faces. If I looked like her Id be jumping of joy because I think she's very pretty.
She's also skinny!
bai ling looks better when she ties her hair in a knot... the movie soundtrack is soooo good... does anybody know its name?

the trailer looks better then the book. Im a fan of trashy movies but not books...i found "shanghai baby" absolute crap to read.
I agree with u, shopgirl...Shu Qi would be just perfect for the role. And I think she's not only much (but much much) hotter than Bai Ling but also a better actress.
Being Australian, I don't know any of the female actors you suggested for Coco. But I think Bai Ling is perfect for the role. I never imagined Coco as being drop-dead gorgeous, just attractive. While I think that there are certainly more attractive Asian female actors than Bai Ling, in the bigger scheme of things, Bai Ling is still a good-looking woman. And I think Bai Ling gives off a reckeless, self-destructive air that Coco has.
