Attica is pretentious?? pppffffttt
[Pretentious: Making claim to or creating an appearance of (often undeserved) importance or distinction]
I guess you could say that Attica is Shanghai's most exclusive or hottest club. Am I right? I like Attica a lot, they play good music, have two dance rooms playing different music, an awesome terrace and nice interior. Although, I've heard some people complain that there are only pretentious people there and I kind of agreed with them, there were for sure many people there who were only at Attica so they could be "seen upon" by other less fortunate or rich people. They have weekly events called Vanity (how gay does that sound???)!!!!!!!!!!

But now........after going to Cafe Opera in Stockholm (I guess the equivalent of Shanghai's Attica), I must now say that I truly understand the word PRENTENTIOUS!!!
Brats watching every move you make and what you are wearing, brats who actually tell you clearly that they came to the club by taxi (So what????????), brats who tell you that they live on that "street", brats who tell you that people from Handelshögskolan (best university in Sweden) are only rich people, and of course that brat is a student from there! Brats who say: So do you want my number? (ehrm no thanks!!!!!!!!!!)
Come on!!! It's becoming too obvious here! Besides, 8 out of 10 guys have backslicks, makes me want to vomit.

<------ A "wannabe" brat with backslick who says :" Aren't you thirsty, I have my Daddy's credit card with me" by the bar.
(Hopefully, some day in my life I will learn to love Sweden)
I just remembered, there was this brat who told me that his dad worked at Sony Ericsson so he gets the latest phone models (ehrm...who cares????????).
I just can't stop loving Shanghai more and more for each day...
(The "pretentious" places are in fact not very pretentious at all)
But as I'm a famous hypocrite I will bring my dear friends to Café Opera when they come and visit me, I will also bring them to Stockholm's upper class version of Tong Ren Road aka Stureplan to party and dance to brat-music aka Basshunter.
I mean it was still a fun night, I was there at the same time as Hugh Grant!!! How cool is that!?
Btw, 9 March, Pete Tong will be playing in Attica.

what's backslick
attica together with bar rouge are thé exclusive clubs..(lots of expats, and daughters from expats..i like :D)
although attica is more fun but bar rouge's interiour n shit looks way better :)
the r&b lounge in attica is to small. but overall its ok :)
your post is a little geared towards high school/university students. 300 rmb to get into a club?! man. I thought rich kids had drivers and personal cars?
It's funny that you defined "pretentious" for us as it more or less describes you and your writing.
Also, Attica has neither good music nor any degree of exclusivity.
Allright, I'm neither a brat nor a backslick. And I try keep my pretentiousness to times when I'm shitfaced and bored. But we need to clear out a few things here...
I am afraid I have to agree with the previous comment. Attica is definitely NOT neither exclusive or hot, and although some people may pretend to be posh, they sure don't fool anybody.
And even though Café Opera is not my favorite Stockholm spot, comparing it to the cheezy Attica doesn't do the place right.
Stockholm School of Economics (or Handels) is not a University, but has probably the best business and executive education courses you can get in Sweden. No other sciences are taught there.
And I hope you don't consider Tong Ren Lu to be as upper class as Stureplan, because then I've been at the wrong spots.
But thanks for the Pete Tong tip, it'll be either this or Sharam of Deep Dish for me tonight. ;)
maybe some needs to give her the definition of eclusive?
^ i meant someone
OK, if Attica is not supposaed to be a posh and rather exclusive place, then what should it be?? HUH?????
OK, not all backslicks are like that, as I have some friends who have that hairstyle. I was referring to "real brats with backslicks".
Dan: Handelshögskolan is in fact a university, as they do research on a high level.
It's called högskolan just because universities were called högskolan by that time, as Handelshögskolan is a private institution who were one of the first schools to open the business education for students.
Tong Ren Lu is quite trashy, but it's a street with bars on. That is why a I was referring that Stureplan was an upper class version of Tongren Lu.
Anonymous: I'm NOT prententious in any ways! If you have gotten the feeling then you're seriously not getting my humour or sarcasm.
"OK, if Attica is not supposaed to be a posh and rather exclusive place, then what should it be?? HUH?????"
Attica is just another expat place in Shanghai, with quite lousy interior decoration, a nice view, and judging from last time I was there when there wasn't a big poster name deejaying, so-so music, and a clientel that was quite colorless.
Just as Bar Rouge is mainly a place for tourists or people passing by Shanghai who likes to party with the communist flag and enjoy the view. Or young ex-Soviet/Russian federation models who enjoy watching themselves in the mirrors. Or people who can't get enough of the very exciting zippo lighter-fluid shows that the bartenders and residents put on every single night.
There are definitely more posh and exclusive clubs in this city, but they are irrelevant to this discussion.
Myself? I like different places depending on what mood I am in when I go out, and depending on the company I'm in.
About SSE: You're right. I'm wrong.
DiscoDan: Please tell me which places are posher than Attica? Jade on 36? Glamour Bar? De La Coast?
a small evian water bottle in Attica cost 45 rmb, which is even more expensive than a Stureplan club in Stockholm!
sorry sweetie..but i dont like Attica either..
as far as i know, a lot of ppl hate that place, but they are still going there which sounds weird to me.
Attica is a nice place - i mean all the decoration stuff and the..balcony, but they have really shitty music - kinda like same hippop in windows but better souond systems - i dunno - or say maybe just not my type.
not my type.
