A hidden treasure

Famous markets are great! You're familiar with the place and you know how much value you get for your money. Some of the famous markets include Nanjing Xi Road 580, Qipu Road, the one behind City Plaza in Jingan, the one by Times Square in Pudong, etc.

Now where I live in Shanghai, there's a market selling fake goods and shirts, but also clothes without any special brand. What I can tell you about the place is CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP. And going there you won't hear any "Bags, watch, dvds"- shouting, the best of all is that there are hardly any people there.
The market is on An Shun Road, close to Kai Xuan road, just by the intersection.
After shopping just go across the street and there's a Wenfeng (the famous hairsalon chain) where you can get a cheap massage, there are also small boutiques there selling brands like Theory, See by chloe, Marc Jacobs for much less than those small boutiques on Xinle and Shaanxi Road. If you go further down on Anshun Road towards Dingxi Road, you'll find LOTS of chinese restaurants, it's as tasty as it is cheap!

Also make sure to visit the BIG flower market just opposite those restaurants!!!
How to get here:
Bus 945, 48
or grab a cab from Zhongshan Park, 11 rmb for the ride.

Shopgirl I am confused. Are you in Shanghai of Sweden? Seems one minute you're on the subway in Stockholm then you're at a clothing market in Shanghai!

But yes, away from the tourist hotspots there are bargains to be found in this city.

Thanks for the reply. I was starting to wonder if you were one of those bloggers who rarely respond to comments!

Oh I see you are writing retrospectively. I really enjoy your fashion commentary because the fashions in China are certainly very interesting. For me one interesting issue is the gaping divide between the fashion sense of Chinese men compared with the girls. It's getting better of course, but I still look at how most Chinese guys dress here and think they have a long way to go to catch up.

Yes, lucky bastards. It's good that you know that as many people back home don't realise what an amazing place China is!

Interestingly, most foreigners are more ignorant and less open minded than Chinese people.
